Academy Council

Academy Council

As a member of The Kite Academy Trust, Lakeside Nursery and Primary has an Academy Council instead of a Governing Body. This is made up as follows:

2 Elected Parent governors
1 Staff governor
1 Head Teacher
3 Co-opted governors (at least) – with appropriate skills and experience

In addition, the governing body may invite other persons to attend meetings as Associate Members.

All governors, with the exception of the Headteacher, normally serve a four-year term of office. They can then stand for re-election or re-appointment if they are eligible to do so.

The role of the Academy Council is to monitor the local academy and feedback to the Trustees. They support the local Head and the Kite Academy Trust in delivering a high quality education for children. In order to do this, they meet each term in an Academy Council meeting. Prior to this, each governor completes a portfolio of monitoring, which they feed back at the Academy Council meetings. They monitor the local Academy by looking at data, visiting the school and speaking to staff or children. They are then able to support and challenge constructively as needed. The monitoring portfolios are Safeguarding, Community, Curriculum, Finance and Achievement.
