Reception - Emperors and Rockhoppers

Spring Term

In the Spring term, Reception have been doing a lot of drama based on the story 'The Little Red Hen'. We re-told the story, made story maps, wrote a sentence about the beginning, middle and end of the story. We filmed the children acting the story which they all did really well!

We were learning how to look after our environment using the story 'Somebody swallowed Stanley'.

We have introduced toasty Fridays to build children's independence where children cook their toast, spread their toppings and cut the toast.

During circle time, we have introduced lots of new vocabulary focussing on our emotions and how to regulate our feelings.

During Forest school this term we have focussed on our senses: sight, hearing, touch and smell. When it was really cold, the children were being icy explorers in Forest School looking at the ice, touching it and thinking of adjectives to describe the ice.

We have been doing a lot of funky finger activities to build up our fine motor control and continuing 'squiggle while you wiggle' to develop our handwriting.

In maths, we were looking at parts and whole and we were learning about capacity, weight and length. We have had an exciting visit from Pierre Henry-Fontaine. A basketball player who showed us a variety of ways to get fit and healthy.
