Year 4 - Flamingos and Toucans
Autumn 1
Year 4 have been studying our local history.
This term our topic has been 'Local History Detectives’. We have discovered that the area we live in is called Surrey Heath because the area was once covered in Heathland. We placed key events on a timeline and learned that this area was mostly developed during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Part of our research led to the discovery of a local composer, who was also a key member of the suffragette movement, called Ethel Smyth. She grew up in ‘Frimhurst’ Frimley Green.
In PE and Forest school we have been developing our skills of team work, mapping and orienteering. We even made our own compasses on the playground.
In Science, we have been learning about sound and how it travels through gas (air), solid and liquid.
In Maths, we have all worked hard on place value, including negative numbers and Roman Numerals.
