Year 4 - Flamingos and Toucans
This half term our topic has been 'Explorers'. We have read and watched the animation ’Varmints’ by Helen Ward and Marc Craste. It is a mysterious tale of a threatened natural world. In English we used drama and writing to tell our version of the story in our own words. We explored poetry and metaphors to make our own poems about change. In Art we learned how to used graded pencils and charcoal to create large artworks based upon the book. The images were amazing and our on display in the Year 4 classrooms.
In Maths we have been learning all about time, we made our own clocks to help us understand the different ways that time can be represented.
We ended the term by joining the rest of the school in raising money for the NSPCC. The track was 65m and 65cm long and we covered the length with coins raising approximately £130!
This term our topic has been ‘Anglo-Saxons. We were on the edge of our seats reading ‘Beowulf’ by Michael Morpurgo. A gruesome tale that dates back to the 5th Century.
In English we used the story of Beowulf to write a CV, a news report and finally as a model to help us create our own hero and villain story which we presented in neat as a book full of illustrations. They were all extremely exciting, the children will enjoy sharing these at home with you.
We learned about Anglo-Saxon times and used this information to design our own village, explore artefacts and sketch our favourite Anglo-Saxon God.
In Art we created our own Anglo-Saxon shields using collage techniques. They were too beautiful to be used in battle!
