Year 6 - Eagles and Kestrels
Autumn 1
In Literacy we have worked through the wordless picture book, The Arrival by Shaun Tan. We have explored how he has used literary devices, such as imagery, colour and tone to explore the theme of immigration across cultures. We have spent lots of time creating detailed character and setting descriptions and practising how to use these when writing narratives and play scripts.
During maths lessons we have spent time revising place value in numbers up to the millions. We have also recapped multiples, factors, prime numbers, prime factors, composite numbers and the four operations as well as applying these skills to two-step problems.
In our Geography lessons, we have been learning about mountains around the world. We have learnt how they are formed and how they impact the lives of people who live nearby. This included creating climate graphs and working with atlases. As well as this, we have done some mountain water-colour art.
In PE we have been working on our gymnastic skills, such as rolling, jumping and climbing. The children have really grown in confidence using different apparatus and evaluating performances.
We have thoroughly enjoyed science lessons this half term, doing some complex work on the classification of plants and animals. We enjoyed an online session with the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation to talk about animal adaptations.
